2) What Home Inspectors NEED to Know About Decks

Course L2863-02 (2 credits) October 19 from 8 - 10 am
Our goal here is to provide home inspectors with a general understanding of the different components on a deck constructed to the 2020 International Residential Code (IRC) and deck construction best building practices guidelines set in the American Wood Council document DCA6-2015. We will cover how to evaluate and conduct a thorough inspection of deck components using a systematic approach. We will lead you through the proper construction of a deck and tips on how, and what to look for in inspecting and reporting deck defects in a home inspection report. By separating components and showing photo/diagram examples of common deck defects found due to improper construction and/or aging of materials, while addressing the function of each element along the way as it applies to deck safety/longevity. A must-see class for both new and seasoned home inspectors

Course L2861-02 (2 credits) October 19 from 10:15 am - 12:15 pm
Our objective is to familiarize home inspectors with the specifics of gas-fired forced air heating systems, with the major focus on the differences between the two most common types in use today; conventional furnaces, not limited to, but to include 80% furnaces, and condensing furnaces; commonly referred to as "High Efficiency" furnaces. We will include a history of gas-fired furnaces from the onset of “Central Heat” and will then progress into the details on the general components consistent with these types of units. How they operate, where they are similar, and where they differ in design and function. We will conclude by going over the cycle of operation, and discuss various inspection techniques used to evaluate this equipment.
