Meet the Presenter
Dick Alton
Dick Alton
Dick Alton started his career in construction as a carpenter building homes prior to graduating from SUNY Oswego with a degree in Business and Finance. After graduation, he worked in the banking industry for 12 years as a commercial loan officer specializing in home builders, developers and construction project lending. Passionate about building, Dick left the banking industry to become a Project Manager for commercial construction projects and residential construction. For the last 10 plus years, Dick has put his expertise into his home inspection business and has earned the prestigious ASHI certified inspector status, and is a certified N.Y.S. Code Official. Dick is a rostered N.A.D.R.A. Deck Evaluator and completed the 20 hour Master Deck certification from the Building Code College. During the pandemic, Dick earned his HERS energy rating and became an Exterior Design Institute Building Envelope Specialist including cladding such as EIFS and Adhered Stone veneer. Also, a seasoned home inspector instructor, Dick's presentations are well researched and comprehensive, though easy to follow.

4) Inspecting Slate Roofs

Course L2834-02 (2 credits) February 5 from 10:15 am - 12:15 pm
While slate roofs are relatively rare, this is not a roof to mess around with! They can literally run $150,000-200,000 to replace, and believe me, that is not a phone call you want to get a year after an inspection where a client wants to know why the roofer is recommending replacement! Tom will take you through the history of slate roofs, what you can expect from different types of slate where service life is concerned, as well as going over the correct procedures for installation of the magnificent roof systems! We will also be going over the processes for inspecting this type of roof.
Meet the Presenter
Tom Sherman
Tom Sherman
After a decade as the owner/operator of a residential construction company, Tom Sherman, a 10-year US Marine Corps veteran, became a professional home inspector in 1998. In 2006 when New York State instituted the Home Inspector Licensing Law, Tom immediately jumped at the chance to become a NY State Certified Home Inspector Educator. Tom was a 24-year ASHI Certified Inspector (recently stepping down from the organization), a Certified Residential Thermographer and a Licensed Drone Pilot, who has worked diligently since 2014 to build NETinspect Home Inspector Training Institute; a training school with a strong appreciation for the in-depth amount of knowledge an inspector needs to competently perform a professional home inspection. Our classes are well researched, targeted to the audience and professionally presented by our group of experts. Join Tom and his team as we delve into the subject matter that will help you to become a more knowledgeable and successful home inspector!
