2) Then Thru Now: The Progression of Building Techniques Thru the Ages

This course was designed to guide you from the early days of building construction in America and take you all the way through the ages up to modern construction. We will discuss the different forms of historic framing and siding techniques, roofing materials, mechanical systems, and will lead attendees through the different eras of residential buildings, all the way to housing techniques used today. Those in attendance to will leave with a better understanding of building construction from all eras of American history

Tom Sherman
After a decade as the owner/operator of a residential construction company, Tom Sherman, a 10-year US Marine Corps veteran, became a professional home inspector in 1998. Within a few years, Tom had been chosen by HGTV's Program Creator to appear in the "HOUSE DETECTIVE" series and was featured in 11 episodes. In 2006 when New York State instituted the Home Inspector Licensing Law, Tom immediately jumped at the chance to become a NY State Certified Home Inspector Educator. Throughout his career, Tom became an ELAP-certified Radon Laboratory, a Certified Residential Thermographer and a Licensed Drone Pilot. As an educator, Tom has worked diligently since 2014 to build NETinspect Home Inspector Training Institute; a training school with a strong appreciation for the in-depth amount of knowledge an inspector needs to competently perform a professional home inspection. Our classes are well researched, targeted to the audience and professionally presented by our group of experts. Join Tom and his team as we delve into the subject matter that will help you to become a more knowledgeable and successful home inspector!

5) The Anatomy of a Residential Electrical System

The sales agent will gain knowledge about the electrical system in a house. These systems are integrated throughout the entire building and understanding their functionality is essential for understanding how a home is constructed and works. This knowledge will increase real estate standards and professionalism within their industry and allow improved communication on the product they are representing to their clients.

Josef Fasolino is a graduate of Union College with a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2003) and graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1998). Joe co-authored a book titled "The Practical Guide to Being A Home Inspector" and he currently owns and operates Top Gun Inspections Services out of Schenectady, NY and has been a long-time instructor for both home inspectors and real estate agents.

9) Pipes, Tubes, Hoses, and Other Forms of Waterworks

This course is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of what components make up a residential plumbing system, both visible and what is behind the walls, as well as an understanding of their purpose. We will lead attendees through recognition of the different materials and will also review some of the problem components that were used in the past which have been discontinued due to failure or poor performance. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to competently discuss the systems and components with their clients.

The course objective is to familiarize you with an understanding of the different components and techniques used for deck construction based on generally accepted industry standards. The instructor will lead attendees through the proper construction of a deck and tips on how, and what to look for regarding overall construction and safety guidelines. This will be done by separating components and showing photo/diagram examples of common deck defects found due to improper construction and/or aging of materials, while addressing the function of each element along the way as it applies to deck safety and longevity.

15) Disseminating the NYS Home Inspectors SOP & COE

During this course, we will unpack the often-confusing information and processes that are followed by home inspectors throughout an inspection during a real estate matter. Why did the inspector say this? Why did they say that? We will break down some of the confusion and guide through how to understand, as well as how to best work with inspectors before, during, and after the transaction. During this class we will also cover the Home Inspectors SOP and COE to better provide understanding on the "whys and the wherefores"

Dave Patton
Dave Patton, Founder of Adirondack Mountain Home Inspections, entered the construction trades in the early 70’s working framing and contracting residential, commercial conventional type and log structures for twenty years. During that period Dave was involved in the construction of over 200 log structures manufactored by eleven different national companies along with conventional projects. In 1996, Dave began working at The Original Lincoln Logs and became Vice President. Dave ran operations for The Original Lincoln Logs for 15 years before recently serving as President of CNW Log Homes, conducting business nationally and internationally.

19) Attics & Crawls: Above & Below the Living Space

Course PENDING (2 credits) April 30 from 3 - 5 pm
During this course, the instructor will break down some of the confusion of these two areas, which are often not accessed during a home showing. We will discuss the different components what make up the residential attic, touch on insulation, and purpose. We will also go over types of crawl spaces and some of the concerns found in these spaces, both historic and modern, which often crop up during a real estate transaction. The attendees will leave this class with a better understanding of these areas that exist in most houses.

Rick Bates
Rick Bates has been inspecting buildings since 1987, having conducted over 11,000 commercial and residential building inspections in that time. A Board Certified Master Inspector, New York State Licensed Mold Assessor with decades of experience in the identification, causes and cures for mold. Rick is an indoor air quality specialist, has decades of experience as a litigation consultant and expert witness in construction and personal injury related cases.
