Our goal is to familiarize inspectors with a general understanding of the different components on a modern hot water boiler, with a quick glance through the rear-view mirror while we check out older gravity system operation. These systems, while rare, are still lurking around some corners. We will cover general operating stages of this equipment, lead inspectors through the basic cycle of operation. We will break down the system by separating components, while addressing the use and function of each element along the way. The class will conclude by reviewing step-by-step procedures for inspecting boilers, to include inspection report documentation.

Our course will lead inspectors through the processes of how to spot these defects that are common with vinyl siding systems. Also, while some of these installation processes are not visible during a home inspection, it is important for inspectors to understand the best practice installation guidelines and instructions in order to grasp where failures loom due to contractor negligence. We will discuss the different styles of vinyl siding systems, the historic problem areas that have been identified, as well as examine why failures have occurred. Using photos from the field, a “Spot the Defects” segment will follow, with an open discussion on the whats, whys and wherefores of problem vinyl siding installations
